The Office of the President of the Senate has denied a viral video circulating online alleging that Senate President Godswill Akpabio made divisive comments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued to journalists yesterday in Abuja by the Special Adviser to the President of the Senate on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, Jibril Tafida, the allegation was described as false, malicious and capable of inciting unnecessary tension in the country.

The viral video claimed that the Senate President said Northerners must vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections or risk expulsion from Nigeria — an allegation the Senate President’s Office firmly rejected.

“We wish to state clearly and unequivocally that the President of the Senate never made such a statement. This claim is completely false, malicious, and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and create unnecessary tension,” the statement read.

The Office of the Senate President called on security agencies to investigate and arrest Garus Gololo, the individual featured in the video, and compel him to provide evidence supporting his claims.

“We therefore call on the security agencies in Nigeria to arrest Garus Gololo immediately and compel him to provide evidence of where and when the President of the Senate made such a statement,” the statement added.

The statement further condemned what it described as the use of “gutter language” against the Senate President, warning that such conduct undermines respect for public office and democratic institutions.

It also accused Gololo of repeatedly making derogatory remarks against President Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress, describing his actions as politically motivated.

“Garus Gololo has developed a pattern of insulting President Bola  Tinubu and the APC in order to satisfy his paymasters in the name of opposition politics. This must stop,” the statement said.

The Office urged Nigerians, particularly those in the northern region, to disregard the allegations and condemn what it described as attempts to sow division and disrespect constituted authority.
