Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have learned their opponents for the group stage of the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
Following the official draw ceremony held on Friday in the Polish city of Lodz, the Falconets were placed in Group F alongside three diverse and challenging rivals: European powerhouse Spain, Asian giants China, and Oceania debutants New Caledonia.
The draw marks an important step for the 12th edition of the biennial tournament, which will be hosted across four Polish cities: Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, Lodz, and Sosnowiec.
The competition is scheduled to run from 5 September to 27 September 2026.
For Nigeria, the Falconets enter the tournament with a proud history and high ambition. Having never missed a single edition of the U-20 Women’s World Cup since its inception, they are one of the most consistent performers on the global stage.
Despite this remarkable record, the team is still chasing a maiden title. They have come agonizingly close on two occasions, finishing as runners-up — first in 2010 (Germany) and again in 2014 (Canada).
The 2026 campaign offers another opportunity to finally go one step further.
Spain, one of the favorites in Group F, boast a rapidly rising pedigree in women’s youth football, having recently dominated at both senior and junior levels with their technical and possession-based style. China, a traditional force in women’s football, bring discipline, experience, and a never-say-die attitude, having qualified for multiple U-20 World Cups.
Meanwhile, New Caledonia enter the competition as relative unknowns; their presence marks a historic first qualification from the Oceania region, making them a wildcard that could surprise complacent opponents.
The Falconets will need to be at their best to navigate this balanced yet challenging group.
With their physical style, speed in transition, and tournament experience, Nigeria will aim to advance to the knockout rounds and launch a serious bid for their long-awaited first world title.
All matches will be played in the four host cities, with exact venues and kick-off times to be confirmed closer to the tournament date.
