The Bauchi State Police Command has foiled an attempted kidnapping and arrested two suspects during a rapid response operation in Misau Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said in a statement on Friday that the operation followed credible intelligence received on May 12, 2026 from an anonymous source.
He said operatives swiftly mobilised, trailed, and intercepted the suspects before they could carry out the planned abduction, thereby preventing harm to the intended victims.
The suspects were identified as Kyellumi Umar and Muhammad Aliyu Gawo.
During interrogation, Kyellumi reportedly disclosed that the gang had planned to rob two individuals, Alhaji A. Labdo and Alhaji Baba, whom they believed carried large sums of cash outside banking facilities.
He added that the prompt intervention disrupted the criminal plan and helped avert the crime.
Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, commended the operatives for their professionalism, courage, and swift response.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety of residents across Bauchi State.
The suspects are currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) and will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigations.
The Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies, noting that public cooperation remains vital in preventing crime.
