The Damaturu Flyover in Yobe State has reached over 93 per cent completion and is expected to be opened to traffic before the end of this month, while other associated road projects are scheduled for completion by December 2026.

The project contractor, Triacta Nigeria Construction Company, said major structural works on the flyover have been completed, with final stages now focused on asphalt laying, compaction, and finishing works.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, May 16, 2026, the company’s area manager, Fadi Abid, said work on the flyover has advanced to critical finishing phases.

“We are currently working on the asphalt phase, after that, we will proceed with walkways and finishing works like painting and other final touches,” Abid said.

He explained that complementary infrastructure projects, including the expansion of roads and drainage from the Pilgrims Roundabout to the August 27 Stadium axis in Damaturu, have reached about 30 per cent completion and are expected to be fully delivered by December 2026.

According to him, the flyover was designed for durability and long-term use.

“By design, the flyover is expected to last for a minimum of 50 years and certainly it could last much longer,” he added.

Abid also commended the Yobe State Government under Governor Mai Mala Buni for what he described as sustained support for the project’s execution.

In his remarks, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Ministry of Works, Engr. Hassan Musa Ibrahim, said the project is being implemented in two phases—the flyover itself and the 6.6-kilometre road expansion from the Pilgrims Roundabout to the August 27 Stadium area.

He said the scope includes parking spaces, kerbs, drainage systems, and green areas.

He disclosed that the contract was awarded on February 21, 2025, with an initial one-year completion timeline, but additional works approved in August extended the delivery schedule to December 2026.

“Before the commencement of the contracts, the state government paid 50 per cent mobilisation, while subsequent payments will be made on certified stages of work completed,” he said.

The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Yobe State Council, Comrade Rajab Mohammed Isma’il, who led journalists on an inspection tour, expressed satisfaction with the quality and pace of work across multiple projects in the state.

He said journalists have a responsibility to assess and report government projects as part of their civic duty, noting that ongoing infrastructure delivery reflects campaign promises made by Governor Mai Mala Buni.

“As we can all see, we have gone round and seen for ourselves the projects executed under the Commissioner of Works Engineer Umaru Wakili Duddaye and are almost near completion,” he said.

Projects inspected during the tour included the Damaturu-Gambir road, Ar-Risalah bypass road, August 27 Stadium axis works, the Damaturu Flyover, and the Pilgrims parking space among others.
