The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Dr Shehu Dikko; former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa; and Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retired), are among prominent Nigerians shortlisted for honours at the 2026 Sports Legendary Awards.

The fourth edition of the awards, organised by Celebrity Sports Magazine, is scheduled to hold on 2 July 2026 at Chelsea Hotel.

In a statement signed by the President of Celebrity Sports Magazine, Solomon Omonokhua, the organisers said preparations had reached an advanced stage for the ceremony, which is aimed at rewarding sports administrators, athletes, philanthropists, corporate organisations and political leaders supporting youth and sports development in Nigeria.

Dikko was nominated for the “Best Performing Sports Administrator in West Africa for the Year 2026” award in recognition of what the organisers described as his contributions towards reviving Nigerian sports since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to the statement, the award organisers commended Dikko for what they termed his outstanding leadership and reforms in the sports sector.

Other notable nominees include the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adeniyi, Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Ahmed Audi, and several state governors, including those of Delta State, Kaduna State, Plateau State, Adamawa State and Kebbi State.
