The member representing Esan West/Igueben Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Marcus Onobun, has emerged winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election ahead of the next general election.

Onobun secured the party’s ticket for a second term after polling 6,897 votes in the keenly contested exercise.

His closest challenger, Paul Ogedegbe, scored 3,738 votes to place second, while Mathias Ehizua came third with 2,446 votes.

Lucky Esegbe, who was widely rumoured to be the preferred consensus candidate allegedly backed by Governor Monday Okpebholo, finished fourth in the contest.

The outcome of the primary was viewed by party members and observers as a rejection of alleged imposition within the party, as Onobun maintained a clear lead throughout the collation process.

Observers noted that the margin of victory underscored the lawmaker’s strong grassroots support across the constituency, with the result becoming evident before the final announcement was made.
