The All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured members in Taraba State of a transparent and credible conduct of its House of Representatives primaries, despite delays caused by the late arrival of election materials and officials.

The chairman of the APC House of Representatives Primary Election Committee, Dr. Tsenongo Abancha, gave the assurance while briefing journalists in Jalingo shortly after the distribution of election materials.

Abancha attributed the delay to transportation and flight challenges from Abuja, noting that the committee received the materials shortly before departure.

He explained that the situation was unavoidable due to logistical constraints and delayed flight schedules.

“We want to apologise to Taraba people for arriving late. It was not intentional because we had to wait for the materials, and the flight also came in late,” he said.

The committee chairman, however, insisted that the exercise had commenced and would be conducted fairly across all constituencies in the state.

He disclosed that materials for the House of Representatives primaries were being distributed to constituency headquarters for onward movement to local government areas.

Abancha added that the exercise might continue overnight and possibly extend into the next day due to the geographical spread of the state.

“We are starting with places that are farther away before attending to those within the metropolis. The process may spill over to the next day because of the distance involved,” he stated.

He appealed to party members and stakeholders to cooperate with the committee to ensure a smooth exercise, stressing that transparency and accountability would guide the process.

“We are going to be very diligent, careful, honest and transparent. If anybody notices anything wrong during the process, they should report directly to the committee,” he added.

Meanwhile, there is growing political tension and activity across the state as stakeholders await the outcome of the exercise.
