Rumbles In PGF: Real Reasons Why Some APC Govs Plotted Against Uzodimma

The Progressive Governors’ Forum  (PGF), the umbrella body of governors under the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), came under political turbulence towards the end of last week.

This is as reports emerged that the forum’s chairman and governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, was removed and his Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, also from the South East, was touted as the new chairman.

It was learnt that the attempt took place during an extraordinary meeting of about 20 APC governors held at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, including Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Douye Diri of  Bayelsa, Mbah of Enugu, among others, some of whom joined via Zoom.

Sources privy to the meeting said the concerned governors based their decision on allegations of financial mismanagement, loss of confidence, and high-handedness levelled at the PGF chairman.

According to the sources, the anti-Uzodimma PGF members alleged that he had always given unsatisfactory explanations for those issues.

The event occurred soon after the PGF chairman spoke on behalf of his colleagues when President Bola Tinubu, through his vice, Sen. Kashim Shettima, submitted the APC expression of interest and nomination forms, seeking the party’s ticket to contest for a second term in the 2027 general election.

However, soon after the news broke, the Director General of PGF, Folorunso Aluko, dismissed it, insisting that Uzodimma remained the forum’s chairman.

In a statement titled: “PGF Denies False Reports of Removal of its Chairman”, Aluko said no meeting of the forum was held at which any such decision was taken.’
