The Ogun State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday held the House of Representatives (HoR) primary elections across the 234 Wards of the state in a relatively peaceful atmosphere.

At the elections, witnessed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) across the wards and collation centres, all the nine HoR aspirants, who had earlier emerged on consensus arraignment, scaled through the hurdles before them during the primary election that substantially resulted in affirmation.

At the Federal Constituencies such as the Imeko Afon and the Obafemi Owode/Abeokuta North/Odeda local governments, the duo of the incumbent lawmakers – Hon Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Olumide Osoba, son of the former governor of the state and one of the APC national leaders, Aremo Olusegun Osoba won the party’s ticket to return to the Red Chamber.

While Isiaka won the APC’s HoR ticket to return for the second term at the state’s West Senatorial district, Olumide secured the party’s ticket as an unopposed aspirant from the Obafemi Owode/Abeokuta North/Odeda for the 4th term in the Ogun Central Senatorial district.

Meanwhile, the situation was different at the state’s premier local government, Abeokuta South, where the incumbent federal lawmaker, Hon Afolabi Afuwape slugged it out with four other aspirants – Sodirudeen Ayodeji, Abdul-Akeem Ademolake, Hon Lanre Edun and Tolulope Fijayo Ayinla Philips.

Afuwape, who is currently representing Abeokuta South Federal Constituency was however, declared winner of the primary held across the 15 Wards of the Federal Constituency having polled 12,633 valid votes to defeat his closest rival, Tolulope Philips who polled 760 valid votes.

The situation was the same in the Ogun East Senatorial district where aspirants disagreed with the consensus arrangement to enter into a real primary election that adopted the “Option A4” method of picking the party’s flag bearer.

As at the time of filing this report, leadership of the party, which promised to address the press, was yet to position itself for the promised press conference.
