The chief executive director of Beacon Consulting, Dr. Kabir Adamu, during the launch of IRS, an intelligence reporting tool for safety and security on Saturday in Abuja, explained that based on the feedback they have been getting from a different audience they realized that there is a gap in data management in Nigeria.

He said that because the world presently is ruled by data, especially in the security sector where data has not been embraced, they started investing in blocking that gap to ensure the safety of lives and property of Nigerians in the fight against insecurity.

“What we have done here is to use artificial intelligence with our trade secret and several other capabilities to develop this platform and it will be readily available to not just the government alone, but anyone who wishes to understand the security sector to understand the trend and importantly use it to manage risk,” he said.

Adamu stressed that the importance of security is to protect lives and property and that the tool is available for the government and anyone interested in saving lives and property.

“Our corporate objective goal is to support any process or activity that would lead to the savings of lives and property in Nigeria. We have reached out and will continue to reach out to all members of the security sectors to make available to them not just this product, but several of our other products for their usage.

“This platform raises awareness and attention depending on how its usage goes, it is an independent tool for allowing the assessment of the success or lack of it in tackling insecurity in our communities, especially during this political season, if someone comes and tells you that success has been achieved, you can readily look at it and judge for yourself,” he said.

He further said that they are also hoping that the platform would improve the allocation of resources by the public security department. “It is natural that if you realized that there are gaps in the allocation of resources in certain locations that is the reason why security challenges are increasing, then you can block those gaps by allocating more resources.

“Irrespective of what the case is, it will allow public security officials to understand the trend within certain communities or environments and hopefully, that would ginger them to do more. We hope that the fact that it is serving as a check on the claim of success or lack of it, will be a direct benefit to dwellers in our rural communities.

“Right now, they are the receiving end for the simple reason that the level of check on government claims has reduced, so we are hoping that would serve as a better searchlight and more pressure on the government to focus on tackling insecurity, especially in the rural communities,” he said.

Earlier, Beacon consulting IT operation specialist Abubakar Isah Ogirima, explained that the Incident Reporting System (IRS) offers software as a service to individuals and entire citizens of Nigeria.

“The IRS visualizes security and reports it on a dashboard that is friendly and used by anyone. It has 24/7 support which gives real-time information based on security incidence and events going on around.

“It has journey management and decision making in what to do items of managing security information that would guide decision making in Nigeria. We know that the security situation in Nigeria is unpredictable, but with this platform, it gives us a tool that we can rely on when we want to get up-to-date security information based on location,” he said.
