The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba State has cleared one of the governorship aspirants, Mr David Usman Dinshiya, to contest in the party’s forthcoming primary election.
Dinshiya was cleared by the PDP Screening Committee, led by former Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo, on Tuesday in Abuja at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
After the exercise, Sambo, who was represented by former Niger State governor, Dr Babangida Aliyu, said the PDP had repositioned itself to remain competitive and prepared to win elections in the country.
The former vice president noted that the PDP had maintained a strong presence in Taraba since the return of democracy in 1999 and urged the aspirants and their supporters to build on the party’s existing structures ahead of the governorship contest.
According to him, the PDP remains deeply rooted across the grassroots in Taraba, with its influence spanning the state’s 168 wards.
“Taraba has been a PDP state. We have established strong grassroots support across the state, and our structures remain intact.
“I urge all those cleared by the party to take advantage of these structures and work towards reclaiming our mandate in the coming elections,” Sambo said.
After the screening, Dinshiya expressed optimism about his clearance and described it as a major step toward his ambition to contest for the governorship seat.
The aspirant said he joined the race to provide purposeful leadership and accelerate development in the state.
