The Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has denied allegations that it refused to sell presidential nomination forms to an aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, Comrade Ini Ememobong, the party described the allegation as false and misleading.

Recall that the faction had disclosed it granted waiver to former President Goodluck Jonathan to emerge the party’s presidential candidate ahead of the primaries later this month.

“We are aware of an allegation of the party’s refusal to sell forms to an aspirant for the office of the President. We state clearly that the Interim National Working Committee is not aware of any action by the party or its officials to prevent anybody from purchasing the forms,” the statement said.

The party explained that it had recently amended its timetable in response to appeals from members to allow more aspirants the opportunity to obtain and complete their nomination forms.

According to the amended timetable, the last date for the purchase and return of completed forms is Friday, May 22, 2026, while the special screening for aspirants yet to be screened is scheduled for Saturday, May 23, 2026.

The party further clarified that although the National Executive Committee had earlier zoned the presidential ticket to aspirants from Southern Nigeria, such an arrangement does not override constitutional rights.

“It is worth mentioning that though the National Executive Committee of our party had long ago zoned the presidential ticket to aspirants from the southern part of Nigeria, the right to aspire is a constitutional provision which cannot be circumscribed by directional agreements like zoning,” the statement added.

The PDP urged the public to disregard reports claiming that the party was preventing aspirants from obtaining nomination forms.

“To this end, we urge the public to discountenance any story alleging that the party is preventing people from purchasing forms. We reiterate that our forms are still available within the period provided in the amended timetable, and all Nigerians seeking to genuinely contest on our platform are free to obtain, fill, and return their forms,” the statement said.
