The commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Abia State, Chukwuemeka Odimba, has said the corps is committed to the protection of security of lives and property in schools in the state.

Odimba made the pledge yesterday at the Federal Government College Ohafia during a tour of Unity Schools in the state.

He assured the management of the schools of the corps’ commitment to the safety of the staff, students and the infrastructure.

He said the visit was part of the security measures of the Commandant-General of NSCDC, Prof. Abubakar Audi, targeted at boosting the security arrangements in the schools.

He added that the National Safe School Initiative of the federal government which is domesticated in the NSCDC was basically for safety in academic environments.

He offered to include nominees from the schools for a training programme the  command plans to organise which targets training operatives on morden security  techniques.

He lauded principals of the schools for the clean and serenity of their schools and advised them to device measures to dictate early signs of cultism among the students to nip them in the bud.
