2027: Lado Danmarke Emerges Katsina PDP Governorship Candidate

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State has affirmed Senator Garba Yakubu Lado Danmarke as its consensus governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The affirmation, which held on Sunday at the party’s state headquarters in Katsina, attracted thousands of supporters, stakeholders, women and youth groups, students and delegates from the 34 local government areas of the state.

Also present at the exercise were the party’s three senatorial aspirants, 15 House of Representatives aspirants and 34 aspirants for the Katsina State House of Assembly under the PDP platform.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), led by the returning officer, Muhammad Kankara, supervised the exercise.

Announcing the result, Kankara said 77,085 delegates and party members were accredited, while 77,013 votes were cast during the exercise.

He said all valid votes cast were in favour of Senator Danmarke, making him the PDP consensus governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Katsina State.

“Having scored the majority of the lawful votes cast, Senator Garba Yakubu Lado Danmarke is hereby declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election in Katsina State,” Kankara announced.

The party’s senatorial aspirants — Aliyu Amar, Muhammad Khalil and Hamisu Gambo, also known as Dan Lawan — thanked supporters for their loyalty and confidence in the PDP.

They urged members to remain united and work towards defeating the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.

In his acceptance speech, Senator Danmarke thanked party leaders and supporters for the confidence reposed in him and promised not to disappoint them.

Although campaigns have not officially begun, he pledged to provide purposeful leadership and transform Katsina State if elected governor in 2027.

He described the PDP as a party built on justice and fairness and thanked supporters for their overwhelming backing.

Earlier, the PDP State Secretary, Sanusi Wali, said the gathering was convened to formally endorse Senator Lado Danmarke as the party’s consensus governorship candidate, describing it as a major step toward reclaiming power in Katsina State.
