A former Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, and a governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has resigned his membership of the party.

In a letter submitted to the executive of Makama ward on Monday in Lafia, the former police chief cited the failure of the party leadership to ensure justice over the irregularities that trailed the Just concluded primary for his action.

LEADERSHIP reports that Adamu had earlier petitioned the party’s national leadership through the appeal committee to investigate the last primary.

He had alleged among other things that the outcome of the primary was doctored to edge him out of the race, declaring that he actually won the poll.

He had urged the party to upturned the outcome in his favour in the spirit of justice and fairness.

He, however, vowed that if the party leadership failed to do justice in the matter, he is open to join another political party to realize his ambition.

In his letter of resignation, Adamu pointed out that the party failed to adhere to its own guideline of ensuring internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members in the conducted of the last primary.

“Today I addressed my Letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress (APC),with immediate effect.

“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa state have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party.

“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party”

“Unfortunately the event surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state.

“After wide consultations with supporters, political associates and family members have decided to withdraw my membership to pursue my political aspirations through another platform,” noted.

The former IGP thanked the leadership for the opportunity given him to serve and contribute to the growth of the party during his period of membership.

He also thanked members of the party at the ward level, local government level and state level for the cooperation and relationship built during his stay in the party.
