The Women of Gold Social Welfare Foundation has distributed food items to orphans and Almajirai in Nasarawa State as part of activities marking the Children’s Day and the Salah celebration.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the outreach, the foundation’s founder, Obonganwan Esther Etem, said the initiative was aimed at restoring joy and hope to vulnerable children.

She said children deserved moments of happiness and care, especially during festive periods.

“I want these children always to have something to look forward to. That is why I am bringing them here today,” she said.

Etem recalled how Children’s Day celebrations used to be exciting during her childhood, noting that many children no longer enjoy such experiences.

“When I was growing up, we happily went to the stadium to celebrate.

But today, it is no longer like that.

Most children do not even go to the stadium anymore,” she added.

According to her, the foundation decided to distribute rice because it remains a favourite meal among children.

“You can give children other things, but they may not appreciate them as much. Children genuinely love rice,” she said.

She explained that the outreach was also organised in solidarity with Muslims celebrating Salah.

“I want them to know people are rejoicing with them. I am rejoicing with the Muslim community because we are one and we are together,” she stated.

Etem further said one of the objectives of the foundation was to promote unity and social harmony in Nigeria.

She expressed concern over rising insecurity involving vulnerable children, saying many were easily manipulated due to hardship and neglect.

She urged Nigerians not to leave the responsibility for caring for children solely to the government.

“We should not wait only for the government to put smiles on the faces of children. Let us start doing it ourselves,” she said.

The organiser of the Almajirai, Abdul Rahman Musa, commended the foundation for supporting widows and vulnerable children.

He described the gesture as a noble example worthy of emulation.

“What she is doing is something good that others should learn from. It is a great thing to support children through charity, especially those who have lost their parents,” he said.

Musa prayed for God’s protection and strength for the organisation’s founder and members.

One of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhammed, also appreciated the foundation and prayed for greater blessings for the organisation to continue its humanitarian activities.
