The Catholic Diocese of Kafanchan has confirmed the release of worshippers abducted in Kaduna State, bringing relief to families and members of the Christian community after weeks of anxiety and uncertainty.

The church disclosed this in a statement issued yesterday by the chancellor, Rev. Fr. Jacob Shanet.

He said the freed victims had been reunited with their families and receiving medical and psychosocial support.

“The victims were among nine persons abducted on 9th February, 2026, an incident that also involved a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Nathaniel Asuwaye. The diocese had earlier announced the release of the priest on 12th May, 2026,” he said.

The church expressed gratitude for the safe return of the remaining abductees, describing their release as a major relief for families, parishioners, and the wider Christian community in Southern Kaduna.

According to the statement, the freed victims were undergoing medical attention, emotional care and other forms of support to aid their recovery and reintegration into society. The diocese emphasised that healing from trauma requires sustained pastoral accompaniment beyond physical freedom.

It also called on the faithful and the general public to continue in prayers and solidarity with the victims and their families, urging compassion, visits and sustained support during the recovery process.
