Benue State Education Quality Assurance and Examinations Board (BEQAEB) has intensified preparations ahead of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the first since the agency’s merger.

This followed a briefing held at the board’s headquarters in Makurdi, on Tuesday, which brought together principals from across the state.

According to the executive secretary, Dr. Terna Francis, the meeting focused on ensuring smooth examination planning and execution, including proper registration, material distribution, and result processing.

He noted that despite challenges such as late registration and incomplete school uploads, the Board had completed sorting and bagging of examination materials seven days ahead of the meeting.

He announced a final deadline of Tuesday, May 26, 2026, for schools to complete all required uploads, warning that failure to comply would lead to forfeiture of participation in the examination.

Francis added that registration deadlines had been repeatedly extended to accommodate schools facing challenges, particularly those in insecure or financially constrained areas.

In a statement issued by the board’s Information Officer, Jeffrey Adzam, yesterday, Francis also introduced new measures aimed at improving transparency and accountability.

“These include redesigned answer booklets bearing the BEQAEB name, website, and a call/WhatsApp-enabled contact line for reporting issues or shortages at examination centres in real time through a dedicated situation room”

“In addition, he stated that examination materials will no longer be transported in envelopes or hand-carried, but must be placed in official bags supplied free by the Board to improve security and standardization.”

BEQAEB boss further reminded school principals to update Continuous Assessment (CA) records on the e-dossier platform, noting that the Board will now access CA data electronically during result compilation.

Francis added that each learner’s unique e-dossier PIN must be written on answer booklets during the examination to prevent manipulation and ensure data integrity.
