Tottenham Close In On Robertson

Tottenham Hotspur are nearing a deal for Scotland captain Andy Robertson, following the left-back’s departure from Liverpool.

The 32-year-old played his final game for the Reds against Brentford on Sunday, having previously announced that he would leave Anfield when his contract expires this summer.

While the final details of the move to Spurs are still being finalised, an agreement is understood to be in place in principle.

Robertson was initially a target for Tottenham during the January transfer window, when Thomas Frank was still at the helm. A fee had been agreed between the two clubs at that time, but Liverpool cancelled the deal after failing to recall Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma.

Spurs secured their Premier League survival on the final day of the season with a victory over Everton under new manager Roberto de Zerbi.

Robertson, who has earned 92 caps for Scotland and will captain his country at this summer’s World Cup, made 378 appearances for Liverpool. During his time on Merseyside, he won two Premier League titles and the Champions League.
