Kano State governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appealed to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to put aside personal grievances and support his administration’s efforts to promote peace, unity and development under the “New Kano” agenda.

Speaking on Friday during the annual Hawan Nassarawa ceremony, Yusuf said the interests of Kano State must take precedence over individual concerns, stressing that his government remains committed to building a stable and prosperous state.

“I call on him to look at Kano, not personal interests, and come on board to join the train of peace and a new Kano that will ensure a stable and progressive state,” the governor said.

He noted that at a recent public event attended by political leaders and stakeholders, Kwankwaso was absent, even as other political actors with longstanding disagreements reportedly reconciled.

“When we had a programme some days ago, I looked around and saw that almost everybody was there except Kwankwaso. Even governors who had problems with their deputies reconciled on that day,” he added.

The governor said his administration’s overriding goal is to unite the people of Kano and restore the state’s former glory, insisting that governance must be driven by collective interest rather than political differences.

Yusuf also commended the Emir of Kano for his guidance and support, while stressing that his humility should not be mistaken for weakness.

“I have never feared anybody in my life. My humility is not cowardice but a reflection of my good nature and closeness to the people,” he said.

Reflecting on the condition of the state at the time he assumed office, Yusuf said his administration met widespread decay and had since introduced reforms aimed at addressing long-standing challenges without unnecessary conflict.

“When we came into office, we met things in decay. That was why we introduced several measures to correct the ills without any rancour,” he stated.

He recalled that efforts to maintain peace informed the suspension of the Hawan Daushe celebration two years ago to prevent possible violence in the state.

“If we had met Kano in its former state, we would have taken measures against anybody who wanted to create problems. We tried to stop the killings, just like what happened two years ago; that was why we shunned the Hawan Daushe,” he said.

Yusuf also assured the Emir of Kano of his continued support, adding that plans were underway for a grand durbar celebration that would “shake the world.”

He further disclosed that while the majority of his advisers are performing effectively, a small number are allegedly undermining his administration.

According to him, about 85 per cent of his advisers are contributing positively, while about 15 per cent are creating internal challenges.

“Be warned, we are watching. Sooner rather than later, we are coming for you, and you will see the consequences of your negative actions,” he warned.
