A former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Barr. Marcillinus Nlemigbo, has expressed optimism that no amount of re-alignment by the opposition political parties would stop the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.
He stressed that APC has a strong hold all over the federation and would be difficult, if not impossible, for any force to dismantle the structure.
He said, “The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is just a new born baby formed not too long ago. I had thought that the members would have remained in ADC to prove their political mettle at the polls but they all fled to form the NDC and from what is on ground, I am convinced that no amount of alignment or re-alignment will dislodge APC from power because the masses are with us”.
Barr. Nlemigbo stated this while interacting with newsmen in Owerri during which he prophesied that God had ordained the APC to manage the affairs of this nation.
The business mogul and member Imo State Council of Elders queried the capacity of the opposition parties to retrieve power from the APC which has the majority of the National Assembly, local governments and ward levels with 32 governors in her fold.
Barr. Nlemigbo noted that while the APC has formidable structure across the 36 states and the FCT, is providing effective campaigns for the polls, the opposition parties lack this to man their boots.
The APC chieftain hailed the primaries conducted by the party as free, fair, transparent and credible which he said speaks volumes of the commitment of the party to democratic principles, norms and values’.
He commended Governor Hope Uzodimma for providing a level playing ground for all the APC aspirants and enjoined those who lost to join hands with the winners to ensure a resounding victory for the party at the main elections.
Barr. Nlemigbo who is also the chairman.of the Owerri United Elders Council, bemoaned the prevailing disturbing global economic downturn and commended President Bola Tinubu for his wisdom and foresight to remove the fuel subsidy, argueing that without the presidential measure, the nation’s economy would have plummeted further .
“This economic hardship is a global issue and is not peculiar to us as a nation and without the fuel subsidy removal which has repositioned our economy, our nation would have been worse for it. States now have much more allocation from the Federation accounts and our people should go back to agriculture, which used to be the mainstay of our economy during the first Republic”.
On the state of the Imo economy, Chief Nlemigbo also gave kudos to Governor Hope Uzodimma for his chains of youth and women empowerment programmes, noting that his Skill-up programmes had so far trained over 30,000 people , all working in various parts of the world, just as the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme has improved the services of hospitals in the state.
