Sporting Supreme FC emerged champions of the second edition of the Nigeria Youth League Cup (N-YLC) after defeating Grassrunners FC 2-0 in an entertaining final at the Eket Township Stadium.

The final belonged to Adeleke Abdulmuiz, whose superb second-half brace inspired Sporting Supreme to a deserved victory and secured the prestigious youth title.

Abdulmuiz proved the difference in a tightly contested encounter, breaking the deadlock in the 59th minute before sealing victory with a second strike five minutes from time. His decisive contribution earned him the Man of the Match award and cemented his place as the standout performer of the final.

The opening half was a cagey and tactical battle, with both sides showing the discipline and quality that had powered their impressive runs to the championship match.

Grassrunners FC looked dangerous through swift attacking transitions and energetic forward play, seeking to unsettle Sporting Supreme’s defensive organisation. Sporting Supreme, however, remained composed and disciplined, patiently building their attacks while waiting for opportunities to exploit spaces at the back.

Both teams created promising openings during an evenly balanced first half, yet neither could find the finishing touch as the contest remained goalless at the interval.

The breakthrough eventually arrived 14 minutes after the restart.

Abdulmuiz displayed sharp attacking awareness and composed finishing to fire Sporting Supreme ahead in the 59th minute, sparking celebrations among the supporters and shifting momentum firmly in his side’s favour.

Trailing for the first time, Grassrunners FC pushed forward in search of an equaliser, committing more players into attack and increasing the tempo of the contest.

Sporting Supreme, however, responded with maturity and tactical discipline. Managing the game effectively while posing a constant threat on the counterattack, they absorbed the pressure and waited for the decisive moment.

That moment came in the 85th minute when Abdulmuiz struck again, completing his brace and putting the outcome beyond doubt to crown Sporting Supreme worthy champions.

While Sporting Supreme celebrated a memorable triumph, Grassrunners FC also earned widespread praise for an outstanding tournament campaign marked by resilience, attacking flair and consistency.

Although the final ended in defeat, their spirited performances throughout the competition underlined the growing quality and promise of youth football in Nigeria.
