The Adamawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving maternal, newborn, and child healthcare services as part of efforts to strengthen the wellbeing of citizens and promote sustainable development across the state.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri made this known on Monday during the flag-off of the first round of the 2026 Integrated Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health Week (MNCHW).

The programme is designed to deliver integrated, high-impact, life-saving healthcare services directly to communities, particularly vulnerable populations in rural and urban areas.

The five-day health campaign was launched at Ngurore Primary Healthcare Centre in Yola South and is being organised by the State Ministry of Health and Human Services in collaboration with the Primary Healthcare Development Agency and development partners.

Represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, Governor Fintiri disclosed that thousands of children across the state would benefit from Vitamin A supplementation, deworming, routine immunisation, nutritional screening, and other child survival interventions.

The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the health and wellbeing of mothers, newborns, and children, stressing that the health of women and children remains critical to social stability, economic growth, and sustainable development.

He added that pregnant women and nursing mothers would also benefit from antenatal care services, iron and folic acid supplementation, health education, and counselling aimed at improving maternal health outcomes.

Governor Fintiri noted that his administration has continued to strengthen the primary healthcare system as the foundation of effective healthcare delivery through the renovation and upgrading of health facilities, recruitment and training of skilled healthcare workers, provision of essential medicines, and strengthening of logistics and support systems.

The governor commended healthcare workers, volunteers, and programme implementers at facility, ward, and local government levels for their dedication and resilience despite operational challenges, noting that their commitment continues to make a significant impact on healthcare delivery across the state.

He also acknowledged the support of development partners in advancing healthcare services and improving public health outcomes in Adamawa State.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Muhammed Chubado, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pharmacist Mathias Zira Bubanani, alongside the Chairman of the Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Saidu Bashir, said the initiative reflects the visionary leadership and commitment of Governor Fintiri to improving the health and wellbeing of mothers, newborns, and children across the state.

They explained that health workers had been trained, while mechanisms for supportive supervision, performance monitoring, and prompt response to operational challenges had been put in place to ensure effective implementation and accountability.

Other stakeholders at the event commended the governor for strengthening healthcare interventions and encouraged parents, guardians, and caregivers to take advantage of the exercise to promote a healthier and more productive society.
