A 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, has been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly beating his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, to death during a violent altercation in Oda community, Akure South local government area.

The police said the tragic incident occurred on May 28 and had sparked concern among residents of the community.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged his biological father in a dispute that degenerated into a physical assault.

He said the deceased sustained severe injuries during the confrontation, particularly to the head, and was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

However, despite efforts by medical personnel to save his life, the victim was confirmed dead by doctors while receiving treatment.

The police disclosed that the case was reported by one Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, prompting detectives to launch an investigation into the matter.

‎Following the report, police operatives swiftly tracked down and arrested the suspect, who is currently being held in custody pending the conclusion of investigations.

‎The statement reads in part “Following a formal complaint lodged at the police station by one Daniel Moses, a son of the deceased and brother to the suspect, detectives promptly commenced investigation into the matter. Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives apprehended the suspect and took him into custody for questioning.

‎”The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary for preservation and autopsy while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough, discreet and comprehensive investigation. The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.”

‎Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as unfortunate, reprehensible and contrary to societal values.

‎Ohagwu assured that justice would be served, stressing that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law. He also urged residents to shun violence and embrace peaceful means of resolving disputes.
