Federal Govt Flags Off Gombe-Biu Road Reconstruction

The federal government has kicked off the reconstruction of the Gombe-Biu Road, with the minister of Works, David Umahi, assuring the residents that work will begin within 30 days.

At the ceremony yesterday in Liji, Gombe State, Umahi said the project had been awarded to Hi-Tech Construction Company and would be executed to the highest standards under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We are not here to make promises. This project has been awarded, and work will start within 30 days. The people of Gombe will know that we came,” the minister said.

Umahi disclosed that the Federal Government would also incorporate additional components into the project, including upgrading key sections and expanding infrastructure along the route to ensure seamless travel.

Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya described the project as a historic intervention, noting that the road, first constructed in 1962, had suffered decades of neglect despite several attempts at reconstruction.

According to the governor, the road will improve connectivity between Gombe and neighbouring North-East states, boost trade and agriculture, and support ongoing economic development initiatives in the region.

Yahaya thanked President Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Works for prioritising the project, saying it would bring lasting benefits to millions of residents and road users across the North-East.

The Gombe-Biu Road is regarded as one of the region’s most strategic federal highways, linking Gombe State with parts of Borno and serving as a major corridor for commerce and transportation.
