The son of American actor James Handy’s girlfriend has been officially charged with murder following the fatal stabbing of the veteran Hollywood actor at his residence.

The suspect, 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, faces one count of murder with a special allegation of using a deadly weapon. The charge comes after law enforcement officers discovered the actor with fatal stab wounds in the front yard of his Los Angeles home.

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman condemned the violent incident in an official statement, expressing condolences to the family and emphasising that the victim deserved to live out his later years in peace.

“This is not how anyone’s life should end, stabbed in the chest and left dying in the front yard of a home. The victim deserved to live out his later years enjoying what he had worked so hard for.”

According to family sources, the suspect had been struggling with severe mental health challenges following a medical diagnosis in July 2025. His family revealed that he had recently stopped taking his prescribed medication shortly before the incident occurred.
