The Adamawa State Police Command has begun investigation of torture of an old man identified as Hamza Haruna from Yolde-Pate by some members of a hunters’ group in Molkohi.

The state Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Hassan, has therefore ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged conduct and ensure that all persons found culpable are  prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The command condemned every form of brutality, inhumane treatment and any act capable of degrading human dignity.

It reiterated that no individual or group, regardless of status or function, has the legal authority to take law into their own hands or meted out punishment to any citizen.

The Commissioner of Police has therefore warned hunters, vigilante groups, and other local security groups operating within the State to desist from acts of brutality, unlawful arrest, or any form of inhumane treatment of persons.

He emphasized that while these groups may support lawful security operations, their activities must remain within the confines of the law and respect for human rights.
