Edo State governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has expressed concerns over the rate of kidnapping as the 2027 election draws nearer and declared that Nigeria must not surrender to kidnappers and other criminal elements.

He stressed that no individual or group should hold the country hostage for personal or political interests.

The governor spoke yesterday during a worship service at LoveWorld City (Christ Embassy) in Benin City, where he called for prayers against kidnapping, cultism and other security challenges facing the country.

Okpebholo expressed concern over the growing cases of kidnapping, particularly as political activities ahead of future elections begin to gather momentum.

“This country does not belong to kidnappers. No individual or group should hold the nation captive for personal or political interests,” the governor stated.

He added, “As elections draw closer, kidnapping has become a growing concern. However, with the prayers of God’s people and collective efforts, we believe these challenges will be overcome.”

The governor urged Nigerians to continue to pray for peace, security and economic recovery in the country.

He also called for prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, asking God to grant him wisdom and strength to effectively lead the nation.

According to him, overcoming the country’s security and economic challenges requires both divine intervention and the citizens’ support.

In his remarks, the officiating pastor, Moses Olayemi, led special prayers for Nigeria, its leaders and communities, seeking divine peace, protection and economic restoration.
