Senior Lawyer Urges NASS To Review Land Use Act

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Barr. Ronke Adeyemi, has asked members of the National Assembly to review the Land Use Act.

Adeyemi, a former chairperson of Kwara Chambers of Commerce, Mine and Industry (KWACCIMA) noted that the existing Land Use Act is stifling economic development.

She spoke with LEADERSHIP on the sidelines of the 10th anniversary of a property development firm- Quick Access Macro and Micro Limited in Ilorin, Kwara State.

Adeyemi urged the lawmakers to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks associated with the Act in order to make land ownership and development more accessible to Nigerians.

She described landed property as one of the most valuable investments individuals could make and called on the National Assembly to review the Land Use Act.

Earlier, the chief executive officer of Quick Access Macro and Micro Limited, Mr Yinka Ojo, had identified insecurity as a major threat to economic development and food production in the country.

He said that the  persistent security challenges could further disrupt agricultural activities and discourage investment across the country.

Ojo noted that many Nigerians in the diaspora are unable to develop or make productive use of their landed property due to insecurity in various parts of the country.

He stated  that addressing the security challenges facing the country would enhance revenue generation, stimulate economic growth, and reduce the country’s dependence on borrowing.

He stated that he has used his platform to help transform several rural communities into emerging urban centres.
