Show host extraordinaire and producer of the online Shoot Your Shot Single (SYSS) show, Ojuolape Adeorike Ashimolowo, popularly known as Ojubabe, has said that her rise to showbusiness prominence is rather accidental and not planned.

“My show started in the heat of the Covid-19 pandemic when everybody was in the house and there was boredom in the air and people were looking for an outlet for entertainment. So at first, it started off as a joke but today, the rest is history,” she stated.

In the last month of the year, Ojubabe looked back at the trajectory of the year and is satisfied that the show, which she hosts at 8 pm on Saturday, West Africa Time, has come to stay.

“The response has been very positive and overwhelming,” she said.

She also debunked misleading speculations about her background by offering clarification.

She said: “My name is Ojuolape Ashimolowo but I go by Ojubabe for short. I was born in Lagos, Nigeria, but my place of origin is Osun State, Ilesha. But I went to Mcnair High School in Atlanta, Georgia, then went to Atlanta Metro for college and then Georgia State University for BSC in Mass Communication.”

In spite of her shot to fame in show business, Ojubabe pointed out that she has no background experience in broadcasting.

“My first corporate job was for Delta Airlines for about five years then I transitioned into the IT field as a consultant in the medical field,” she said.

Nonetheless, showbusiness isn’t farfetched for her as there are role models she looks up to.

“My role model from childhood has always been two iconic women in the world of journalism and TV. Oprah Winfrey and Christiane Amanpour. Both for similar reasons, I grew up admiring their work and watching them break grounds in the world of journalism.”
