Nigerian hurdling star Tobi Amusan continued her impressive start to the 2026 outdoor season by claiming gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan on Sunday.

The world record holder stormed to victory in a time of 12.72 seconds, finishing comfortably ahead of Taiwan’s Bo Ya Zhang, who took silver in 13.17 seconds, and Yi Po-an, who secured bronze with a time of 13.37 seconds.

Amusan’s winning performance also saw her break the previous meet record of 12.80 seconds, which had been set by American Olympic silver medallist and former world champion Nia Ali.

The Nigerian signalled her intentions from the outset, producing a dominant display in Heat 2 of the qualifying rounds before carrying that form into the final. She took control of the race after the fourth hurdle and never looked back, crossing the line well before her rivals.

The victory represents Amusan’s second meet-record performance of the outdoor campaign, coming just a day after another outstanding outing at the Rabat Diamond League.
