The Nasarawa State Government has commenced the bid-opening process for the construction of 30 new secondary schools under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project.

The ceremony, held in Lafia, was led by the State Commissioner for Education, Dr. John Mamman, who said the initiative is aimed at expanding access to quality education, empowering adolescent girls, and equipping young people with skills for sustainable livelihoods.

He said the exercise reflects the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability and inclusive governance in the education sector.

“The opening of these contract bids reflects the commitment of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness in governance,” Mamman said.

He added that the government remains committed to supporting the AGILE Project as a strategic intervention to improve access to education and skills acquisition for the girl-child.

The commissioner also assured that all awarded contracts would be closely monitored to ensure quality execution in line with approved standards and specifications.

State AGILE Project Coordinator, Hajiya Aisha Aliyu Isoga, described the bid opening as a “significant milestone” in the implementation of the project in Nasarawa State.

She urged traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to take ownership of the projects to ensure sustainability and maximum benefit for girls across communities.

Representatives of 53 firms that submitted bids were present at the ceremony.

According to officials, the 30 secondary schools will be distributed across the state’s three senatorial zones and will feature smart learning facilities, fully furnished classrooms, modern sanitation systems, and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure.

The AGILE Project is a World Bank-supported initiative aimed at improving secondary education opportunities and empowering adolescent girls through enhanced learning infrastructure and support systems.
