A group of Kano State Islamic clerics currently participating in the 2026 Hajj in Saudi Arabia have commenced a week-long prayer session for peace in the state and the re-election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in the 2027 general elections.

The clerics, who performed the pilgrimage under the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board, said their support for the governor was based on what they described as his performance, integrity and commitment to the development of Kano State.

The prayers, held in Makkah, were led by Sheikh Ali Dan Abba, who said the exercise was aimed at seeking divine intervention for sustained peace, stability and progress in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Head of Media Team, Kano Hajj Operation 2026, Mustapha Muhammad, the clerics also prayed for Governor Yusuf’s successful bid for a second term in office.

Sheikh Dan Abba, who doubles as Commissioner of the Kano State Sharia Commission, said special prayers were offered for Allah’s guidance and protection for the governor, as well as for an end to thuggery, hooliganism and other social vices affecting parts of the state.

Among those who participated were the Special Adviser on Inter-Party Relations, Goni Auwal Mukhtar, and the Special Adviser II on Religious Affairs, Sheikh Alin Bichi.

Other prominent Islamic scholars in attendance included Sheikh Ali Dodo and Malam Kabir Labaran Baba, among others.
