Suspected bandits on Monday evening launched a fresh attack on Odo-Ere, the headquarters of Yagba West local government area of Kogi State.

They killed a personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), identified as Ayo and abducted his daughter.

Sources said the attackers stormed the community on June 8, 2026, and shot the officer on the head. He was rushed to a medical facility where he was confirmed dead on arrival. His remains have been deposited in a mortuary as a brought-in-dead case.

The gunmen reportedly fled into the bush with the victim’s first daughter, heightening fears among residents already grappling with increasing insecurity in the area.

However, in a dramatic twist, the abducted daughter reprtedly escaped from the bandits’ den in the early hours of yesterday and was reunited with her family unharmed.

The cheering news was confirmed to our correspondent by a dependable source within the state’s security apparatus.
