The Kebbi State Government has commenced plans for the establishment of a new Police Mobile Force (PMF) base in Zuru as part of efforts to strengthen security operations and combat banditry and other criminal activities in the southern part of the state.

Governor Nasir Idris officially flagged off the project by handing over land designated for the facility to the contractor during a brief ceremony held in Zuru.

The symbolic handover was performed by the Emir of Zuru, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi Mika’ilu Sami Gomo III, who represented the governor at the event.

The Divisional Police Officer, Chief Superintendent of Police Abubakar Ambursa, received the land on behalf of the Kebbi State Commissioner of Police.

The initiative forms part of Governor Idris’ wider security intervention programme and fulfills a pledge he made during a recent visit to the area.

It also follows the governor’s directive to security agencies to review and strengthen their operational strategies in response to emerging security challenges across the state.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Emir of Zuru commended the governor for prioritising the safety of residents and consistently supporting security agencies with resources needed to enhance their operations.

He noted that the state government has continued to provide vehicles, logistics, and financial assistance to security personnel despite security pressures facing various parts of the country.

According to the monarch, the new PMF base will complement existing security efforts and help tackle armed banditry, kidnapping, cattle rustling, and other crimes across the seven local government areas that make up Kebbi South.

Authorities believe the facility will improve rapid response capabilities, boost intelligence gathering, and increase the presence of security personnel in vulnerable communities.

The ceremony was attended by the chairman of Zuru Local Government Area, Alhaji Muhammad Bala Isah, traditional rulers, senior government officials, and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
