CISLAC Urges FG To Declare National Emergency Over Insecurity

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on the Federal Government to declare a national emergency on insecurity, citing what it described as a worsening wave of kidnappings, banditry, and violent attacks across the country.

The group expressed concern over the rising frequency of security incidents in several parts of Nigeria, warning that the situation is becoming increasingly difficult to manage without urgent and coordinated national action.

According to CISLAC, the continued attacks on communities and travellers have heightened fear among citizens and disrupted daily economic and social activities in affected areas.

The organisation argued that declaring a national emergency would help mobilise stronger political will, improve coordination among security agencies, and fast-track interventions aimed at protecting lives and property.

It also urged the Federal Government to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve response times, and address what it described as structural weaknesses in the country’s security architecture.
