The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has sworn in 1,700 corps members deployed to Bauchi State under the 2026 Batch B Stream I scheme for the mandatory one-year national service.

At their swearing-in yesterday, Governor Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir challenged the corps members to become agents of national development and transformation.

Represented by the state commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Adamu Gabarin, the governor urged them to take the national service programme seriously and contribute meaningfully to the promotion of unity and development across the country.

He encouraged the corps members to begin planning impactful Community Development Service (CDS) projects that would benefit their host communities.

“I encourage you to start thinking about meaningful Community Development Service projects in your places of primary assignment from this very moment.

Let this commitment guide your actions and keep you focused on the objectives of the scheme throughout your service year,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Bauchi State NYSC coordinator, Mr. Umoren Kufre, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the corps members since their arrival at the orientation camp.

According to him, the camp has remained peaceful, with participants actively involved in all orientation activities.

Kufre commended the corps members for demonstrating humility, patriotism, loyalty, and commitment, noting that they had quickly adapted to the regimented lifestyle of the camp.

“Within the short period I have interacted with you, I have observed that you are willing and ready to serve your fatherland. I urge you to continue to obey all camp rules and regulations. Whenever you encounter any challenge or irregularity, do not take the law into your own hands. Always follow the appropriate channels to air your grievances,” he said.

He assured the corps members that the NYSC management would continue to provide essential amenities and maintain a conducive environment throughout the orientation exercise.

“Your safety and comfort remain our utmost priority,” he added.

The coordinator also appreciated the Bauchi State Government for its sustained support and interventions toward the successful implementation of the NYSC scheme in the state.

The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Umar, who was represented by Justice Abubakar Yerima.
