Nigeria’s Mining Cadastre Office Inducts 111 Employees, Pushes Discipline Drive

The Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office (MCO) has inducted 111 newly recruited employees and launched a renewed push for discipline, integrity and professionalism in the public service, with the agency’s Director-General, Engr. Simon Obadiah, urging the new staff to build reputations rooted in excellence and accountability.

The induction and administration of the oath of secrecy took place in Abuja as part of efforts to integrate the recruits into the agency’s operations, which administer and manage mineral titles in Nigeria.

Addressing the inductees, Obadiah said the programme was designed to expose them to public service rules, financial regulations and other key aspects of governance necessary for effective service delivery.

He stressed that the civil service remains one of the country’s most disciplined institutions because it adheres to established rules and procedures, adding that compliance with those regulations is essential for good governance.

According to him, the manuals and booklets distributed during the induction should serve as guides for the new employees as they begin their careers in public service.

The Director-General urged the recruits to distinguish themselves through hard work, discipline and ethical conduct, noting that a worker’s reputation begins to take shape from the first day of employment.

“You have to adhere strictly to the rules and, most especially, make a name for yourself. What do you want your bosses and colleagues to know you for? Building your name is very important,” he said.

Earlier, the Director of Administration, Okechukwu Nwagbara, said the recruitment of over 100 staff under the current leadership marked a significant milestone for the organisation. He reminded the new employees that while the MCO rewards diligence and excellence, it also sanctions misconduct and violations of workplace rules.

Also speaking, the Director of Human Resources at the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development, Mrs Ijeoma Idika, described induction as a critical component of public service administration. She said the exercise helps newly recruited officers understand their work environment, management structure and the mandate of their organisation.

In his vote of thanks, the Director of Monitoring and Coordination, Yakubu Muri, encouraged the inductees to give their best to the organisation, assuring them of management’s support and an open-door leadership style.

Responding on behalf of the new employees, Olamijulo Oluwapelumi commended the agency’s leadership and pledged that the inductees would remain loyal, disciplined, and diligent in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The induction programme concluded with members of the management team offering guidance and professional advice to the recruits, urging them to contribute meaningfully to the agency’s growth and to Nigeria’s mining sector.
