The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has destroyed terrorist strongholds and killed scores of terrorists in Nigeria’s North-West region as part of ongoing operations aimed at degrading criminal networks and restoring security in the area.
The successful strikes were carried out by the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA Sector 1 through a series of intelligence-led missions conducted on June 18 and 19, 2026.
In a statement, NAF spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said the operations involved precision airstrikes on identified terrorist enclaves as well as intensified intelligence, surveillance and armed reconnaissance missions in support of ongoing joint military operations.
According to him, the coordinated missions underscore the Air Force’s determination to deny terrorists freedom of movement and reinforce security across the operational theatre.
Ejodame disclosed that NAF aircraft, acting on credible intelligence, struck a confirmed terrorist stronghold within the Joint Operations Area, disrupting the activities of criminal elements and significantly degrading their operational capabilities.
He further revealed that in a separate intelligence-led mission around Kidandan, NAF aircraft successfully engaged and eliminated terrorists after positively identifying their movement within the area.
The spokesperson said a follow-up reconnaissance mission over Fatika and Sabuwa confirmed the absence of further terrorist activity, while sustained aerial surveillance continued to support ground troops and other ongoing military operations.
Reiterating the strategic approach of the Air Force, Ejodame noted that the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, has consistently maintained that effective air power achieves maximum impact when closely integrated with ground operations.
“Decisive air power delivers its greatest effect when seamlessly integrated with surface operations,” the Chief of the Air Staff had emphasised.
The NAF spokesman said the Air Force remains committed to this strategy and will continue to deploy intelligence-driven air power in close coordination with ground forces to neutralise terrorists, protect innocent civilians and restore lasting peace and security across the North-West.
