Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has called on police officers in the state to maintain neutrality and professionalism in their duties, particularly following the recently concluded APC primary elections.

The governor made the call during a security meeting at the Nasarawa State Police Command Headquarters. Addressing Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, Squadron Commanders, and other senior personnel, Sule commended the police for their role in preserving peace, which he credited for making Nasarawa a top destination for investors.

Governor Sule reiterated his commitment to the rule of law, stating that he would never direct the police to manipulate elections in his favor. At the same time, he appealed to officers to avoid bias against the ruling APC.

“I will be the last person to tell the police to go and rig elections for me. I will never do that. But it will be sad if you protect other people and victimise people of the APC. I plead with you to be as neutral as you can while protecting everybody,” he said.

The governor linked the state’s security to its economic appeal, noting that peace was the leading factor he cited during a presentation in Lagos last week on why investors are drawn to Nasarawa.

On the proposed state police, Sule sought to allay fears among officers, explaining that the plan remains in early stages. It still requires constitutional amendment, approval by the National Assembly, passage of a state law, definition of powers and jurisdiction, recruitment, and funding.

“There is no reason for any policeman to panic. This is a process that has just commenced and may not even take full effect within the one year I have left in office. I want you to work full swing. Do not relax,” Sule added.

He also pledged increased logistical support for the command, noting that higher revenues from President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms would be directed toward protecting lives and property.

“We build bridges, schools and hospitals, and we continue to empower youth and create employment. But you are part and parcel of this state, and you must also benefit from what we are doing,” the governor said.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Police CP Shettima Jauro appreciated the state government’s support, referencing the renovation of the command headquarters, construction of seven buildings, and procurement of Armoured Personnel Carriers and other equipment.

CP Jauro reported recent breakthroughs by the command, including the arrest of suspects behind the May 31, 2026 abduction of five women in Nasarawa LGA, and the June 2, 2026 interception of three suspects with 27 rifles, five rounds of live ammunition, two arrows, 240 caps, and 27 sheep. Two other suspects linked to abductions in Andaha, Akwanga LGA, were also apprehended.

He requested additional operational vehicles for tactical units and assured the governor of the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven policing and inter-agency collaboration.
