President Bola Tinubu has said the ongoing infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is a clear demonstration of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing newly completed road projects as symbols of progress, economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.

Tinubu, who was represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, stated this yesterday during the commissioning of Collector Road CN2 (Emmanuel Ogala Boulevard), linking Arterial Road N16 to Arterial Road N20, including associated infrastructure in Katampe District, Abuja.

The president said the strategic road project would significantly improve connectivity between Katampe and Mabushi districts while linking residents and businesses to major road networks within the capital city.

According to him, the importance of the road extends beyond transportation, as it directly impacts economic activities, mobility, security and social development.

“This road cuts through homes, markets and businesses. It eases the daily movement of our people. No more endless hours in traffic congestion, no more dust during the dry season, and no more muddy roads during the rainy season,” he said.

Tinubu noted that the project was complemented with modern solar-powered streetlights, a development he said would improve safety and security in the area while contributing to the restoration of vibrant city life in Abuja.

He added that improved infrastructure was helping to eliminate criminal hideouts and create safer communities for residents.

“Good governance delivers security, mobility and dignity. With projects like this, Abuja is becoming safer, more accessible and more attractive for investment and development,” he stated.

The president commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for what he described as exceptional leadership and commitment to transforming the nation’s capital.

He praised Wike’s performance in delivering key infrastructure projects across the FCT, including roads, water facilities and housing developments, noting that the minister had consistently delivered results rather than excuses.

“When President Tinubu assigned him the responsibility of transforming Abuja into a befitting capital city, he knew his track record. Today, the results are visible for all to see,” Shettima said.

Tinubu stressed that the road project reflected the administration’s commitment to rebuilding public confidence in governance and demonstrating that government can effectively deliver development projects that positively impact citizens.

He said the infrastructure investments were creating opportunities for businesses, improving access to communities and strengthening economic activities across the FCT.

Addressing residents of Katampe and Mabushi districts, the President thanked them for their patience and cooperation during the construction period and urged them to take ownership of the newly completed infrastructure.

He called on residents to fulfil their civic responsibilities by paying taxes and ground rents while also protecting public assets from vandalism and misuse.

“Government cannot do it alone. Residents must support efforts to sustain these projects by protecting public infrastructure, avoiding encroachment on walkways, and reporting acts of vandalism,” he said.

The president described the road as more than a physical structure, saying it represented hope, opportunity and the government’s determination to improve the lives of Nigerians.

He subsequently commissioned the road project on behalf of President Tinubu, declaring it open for public use and dedicated to the service of residents of the Federal Capital Territory and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Earlier, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, commended President Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented infrastructure development across the Federal Capital Territory, expressing confidence that Abuja would be transformed before the end of the President’s first term in office.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Wike said infrastructure remains the backbone of development and a critical driver of economic growth, employment and improved living standards.

The minister explained that the road project was conceived after the administration observed that an earlier road and bridge project commissioned in the area had left a crucial section undeveloped.

According to him, the government took the decision to reverse previous plans and ensure the missing link was completed in order to maximise the benefits of the infrastructure for residents and investors.

Wike said the impact of the road project was already evident, pointing to the growing number of construction activities and private developments springing up along the corridor.

“I am amazed each time I come here. Before now, there were no streetlights and very little development. Today, construction is taking place everywhere. This shows that development is happening, jobs are being created, and the economy is moving forward,” he said.

The minister dismissed claims that nothing was happening in the country, arguing that the ongoing infrastructure projects across the FCT had generated employment opportunities and stimulated economic activities.

He praised President Tinubu for extending development beyond the city centre to satellite towns and rural communities, noting that residents of previously neglected communities were beginning to experience the benefits of governance.

Wike cited the recently commissioned seven-kilometre road and bridge project linking Tunga Madaki to surrounding communities, describing it as a landmark intervention that had opened up access to schools, economic opportunities and the Abuja city centre.

He disclosed that the FCT Administration was already planning the next phase of road development from Tunga Madaki to Zuba, a move aimed at further connecting communities within the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and neighbouring areas.

The minister also commended contractors handling FCT projects for delivering quality work within record time, noting that the newly commissioned road was completed within seven months.

He said the successful execution of projects across the territory reflected the administration’s commitment to fulfilling promises made to residents.

Wike further lauded members of the National Assembly, particularly the Chairman of the House Committee on the FCT, for their support and commitment to the development of the capital city.

According to him, the committee has consistently worked with the FCT Administration to advance development initiatives, offering guidance and support rather than creating unnecessary obstacles.

The minister thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve in his administration and assured residents that more infrastructure projects would be delivered across the territory.

He expressed optimism that by the end of the President’s first term, Abuja would stand as a model of infrastructure-driven development and inclusive governance.
