Representatives of over seventy branches of the Anglican Church in Enugu State ate to attend the 19th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Enugu to discuss and pray about the 2027 general elections.

The delegates drawn from the branches are expected to deliberate on the state of the nation in the programme scheduled for June 24 to 28.

Bishop of Enugu Anglican  Diocese, Rt. Rev. (Prof.) Samuel Ike, who  disclosed this during a press briefing, averred that  the 19th Synod would address spiritual revival and critical Nigerian challenges.

The Bishop stressed that they will be speaking on the state of the Nigerian nation, governance,  democracy dividends, and electoral promises.

The renowned cardiologist also disclosed that the historic Synod would also deliberate on security, the economy, the education sector, as well as the eastern rail project that has become overdue.

He disclosed that synod is a word taken from the Greek word, which was the language of communication, writing, by the time the early church was formed, about the first century A.D.

The Bishop explained that  in their context, a synod is a gathering of leaders and members making decisions for church life, spirituality and church work and mission.

“The synod will review, usually, the past year’s activity, or the past year’s activity, and mission of the work of the church.

“So, it’s the highest governing and legislative meeting of the three houses we have in the synod. The three houses usually we have in the diocese are the house of bishop, the house of clergy, the house of laity. The diocese usually presents an address during the synod, which is called the bishop’s charge or the presidential address,” he stated.

The Bishop further disclosed that the very Reverend Professor Chinedu Nebo, will anchor the Synod Thanksgiving service on Sunday, the 28th of June, adding the Synod will take place at St. Peters Anglican Church Ogbete.
