Governor Agbu Kefas has approved a partnership with the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Jaji, Kaduna State, to enhance leadership capacity, peacebuilding and conflict management in Taraba State.

At the start, the Centre is expected to commence the training with political office-holders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders in the State, whose actions, comments and decisions directly or indirectly affect their followers and subjects, respectively.

Governor Kefas gave the approval while playing host to the Commandant of the Centre, Major General Dangana Alu, at the TY Danjuma House, Jalingo.

The Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre is one of Nigeria’s leading institutions for peacekeeping and leadership training, providing professional courses for military personnel, government officials, and other stakeholders involved in governance and conflict management.

The governor said, the partnership aligned with his administration’s commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development across Taraba State.

He described peace as the bedrock of meaningful growth and progress, assuring the center of the state government’s readiness to collaborate with the institution in strengthening peacebuilding and capacity development initiatives.

Dr. Kefas also urged the Centre to engage with the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) to expand the reach of its programmes across the country, noting that Taraba has consistently supported initiatives that foster peaceful coexistence and strengthen governance.

According to the governor, the specialised courses offered by the Centre will equip participants with the skills needed to sustain peace, resolve conflicts, and provide effective leadership.

“Our administration will continue to support programmes that promote good governance, leadership development, and conflict resolution,” he said.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre, Major General Dangana Alu, said the visit was aimed at exploring areas of collaboration with the Taraba State Government on capacity-building programmes.

Maj. Gen. Alu thereafter disclosed that the Centre offered 22 specialised courses in areas such as civil-military coordination, leadership development, peace support operations and conflict management.

He noted that, a similar partnership already existed with the Kaduna State Government and expressed confidence that similar collaboration with Taraba would yield significant benefits.

The commandant added that the institution also provides training for political advisers and government officials, as the proposed partnership would strengthen leadership capacity and contribute to lasting peace, security and development in the state.
