Croatia boosted their FIFA World Cup campaign with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Panama in Group L, thanks to a second-half winner from Ante Budimir.

After a closely contested first half ended goalless, the Europeans found the breakthrough nine minutes after the restart. Josip Stanišić provided the assist, picking out Budimir, who made no mistake in firing Croatia ahead in the 54th minute.

Panama attempted to respond and pushed forward in search of an equaliser, with Édgar Bárcenas among those leading their attacking efforts. However, Croatia’s defence stood firm to preserve their slender advantage.

The match grew increasingly tense in the closing stages, with Croatia managing the game effectively as Panama pressed for a late leveller. Petar Sučić was booked deep into stoppage time as Zlatko Dalić’s side battled to protect their lead.

Despite Panama’s determination, Croatia held on through the final whistle to secure all three points and strengthen their position in Group L.
