NDC Picks Duruibe For Okigwe South Reps’ Race

Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has elected Engr. Queen Oluchi Duruibe as its candidate for the Okigwe South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives.

The party said the development reflects its commitment to promoting youth and women participation in politics.

Duruibe’s emergence followed the party’s internal selection process ahead of the next general election which is seen as part of the NDC’s efforts to encourage greater inclusion and broaden representation in elective offices.

The party leaders said her nomination aligned with the NDC’s vision of creating opportunities for young people and women to play more active roles in governance and public service.

After emerging as the party’s candidate, Duruibe expressed appreciation to NDC members for their support and pledged to pursue policies aimed at expanding economic opportunities, improving education, promoting youth development, empowering women and supporting infrastructure development in the constituency.

“The constituency deserves representation that is accessible, responsive and firmly connected to the everyday realities of the people,” she said.

A trained engineer, Duruibe said she would work to provide effective representation and maintain close engagement with constituents if elected.

Her emergence comes amid growing calls for increased participation of young people and women in Nigeria’s political process, with political parties facing pressure to translate advocacy for inclusion into greater representation.

Political activity is expected to intensify in the run-up to the general election, with parties positioning candidates for key legislative contests across the country.
