Imo Police Arrest 6 Officers Over Viral Assault Video

The Imo State Police Command has arrested six police officers captured in a viral video allegedly assaulting a young man in Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.

The command said the officers have been taken into custody while disciplinary procedures have commenced in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said the incident occurred on June 22, 2026, and that a review of the video footage enabled the command to identify the officers involved.

According to the statement, the officers are Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu and Corporal Amos Sunny.

“The Imo State Police Command is aware of a video currently circulating on social media showing some police personnel assaulting a young man at Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State on 22nd June 2026,” Okoye said.

He disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, had ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident to establish the circumstances surrounding the officers’ conduct.

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has directed a thorough investigation into the incident to establish the full circumstances surrounding the misconduct of the officers involved.

“The officers have been taken into custody, and disciplinary procedures have been initiated in line with the extant regulations of the Nigeria Police Force,” he added.

Okoye reiterated the command’s commitment to professionalism and respect for human rights, stressing that the conduct captured in the viral video does not reflect the values and standards of the Nigeria Police Force.

He assured members of the public that the investigation would be conducted transparently and that the outcome of both the investigation and disciplinary process would be made public.

The command also urged residents to remain law-abiding and continue supporting the police with credible information to enhance security across the state.
