A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has scheduled July 2, 2026, to hear the N10 billion fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Nollywood actor and politician, Emeka Ike, against the media aide of the FCT Minister,Lere Olayinka, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The presiding judge, Justice Salim Ibrahim, fixed the new date following a request for an adjournment by the applicant’s counsel, Leonard Adeh, to allow the respondents sufficient time to file their defense.

During the court session on Thursday, June 25, 2026, only the applicant’s legal representative was present. Adeh raised initial concerns regarding the service of court processes on the respondents, particularly Olayinka. However, after verifying the court’s records, the counsel expressed satisfaction with the service delivery but noted that the defendants were still within the lawful timeframe to submit their responses.

In the substantive suit, Ike is claiming N10 billion in damages over an alleged breach of his constitutional right to privacy and the protection of personal data. The actor is challenging a social media post published on X (formerly Twitter) by Olayinka in May, which allegedly contained screenshots of his confidential voter registration details.

Ike contended that the unauthorised publication violated Section 37 of the 1999 Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023. He is seeking an order to compel the immediate deletion of the post, a public apology, and the payment of N10 billion in aggravated and general damages.
