Institute Develops Mobile App To Promote Good Agric Practices

The Nigeria Institute of Soil Science (NISS) has developed mobile application platform to collect and analyse data, proffer solutions and give advice to farmers, extension workers, agro-dealers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector in a move to promote Good Agricultural Practices (GAP).

The upgraded NISS AGRO mobile app (version 2.0) is an online and offline agriculture one-stop shop application that also serves stakeholders to follow recommendations and technology needed in improving and maintaining different soil types and food production in each locality in Nigeria. 

At a workshop to sensitise stakeholders on the uses of the application in Abuja yesterday, farmers were told to assess application is deployed on Android and 105 platforms. 

With the application, farmers and other stakeholders can have full access to download agricultural research video instructions, learn from extensive media campaign on soil related services and fostering the engagements of different stakeholders.

The application also comes with ability to edit and stream  contents in relevance to stakeholders and the geo-political zones of Nigeria, showcase of best quality video for best Agricultural and soil practices and  accessibility for other relevant stakeholders to register and get relevant information, improved language selection and processing.

Other features includes, showcase of agricultural inputs and services already verified and certified by NISS for adoption and use of farmers and provision of partners’ addresses on the map and external link on the mobile application.

With the application farmers can have access to extensive media campaign on soil project, animating images and gallery for education on specific soil related problems and solution as well as advanced weather forecast accuracy for every Geo- political zones in Nigeria.
