NDLEA Seizes 2,248Kg Of Illicit Drugs In Bauchi

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Bauchi State said it has recorded unprecedented successes in its fight against illicit drugs with the seizure of 2,248.591 kilograms of assorted narcotics within the last seven months.

The seized drugs, equivalent to over 2.2 tonnes, include Cannabis Sativa, Methamphetamine (popularly known as Ice), Rohypnol, crack cocaine, Tramadol, Codeine cough syrup and other prohibited substances.

The state commander of the NDLEA, Commander of Narcotics, Hassan Yaqub, disclosed this yesterday during a press conference to commemorate the 2026 United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Bauchi State Command headquarters.

According to him, the commemoration provided an opportunity to assess the command’s operations and strengthen efforts in tackling drug trafficking and abuse across Bauchi State.

The theme for this year is, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses.”

According to him, the theme is a crucial reminder that the fight against drug abuse requires collective action from all stakeholders.

Yaqub stressed that drug abuse remains closely linked to criminal activities, calling on parents, guardians, religious leaders and community members to support the agency’s campaign against illicit drugs.

“There is a strong nexus between drugs and crime. Drug abuse destroys families, claims lives and fuels criminality. Drugs are the gateway to many crimes and we remain committed to protecting society from this menace,” he stated.
