A new video of veteran Nollywood actor Hanks Anuku has once again left Nigerians worried about his well-being.
The actor was spotted in Wuse 2, Abuja, on Saturday, June 27, lying by the roadside and speaking to himself while holding a disposable cup. Some eyewitnesses claimed he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, although the circumstances surrounding the video remained unclear.
For many fans, the footage is a painful sight.
Anuku, known for his memorable “bad boy” roles in Nollywood, remains one of the industry’s most recognisable faces, making the latest images particularly heartbreaking for admirers who grew up watching his films.
The video has also reignited conversations about alcohol use and mental well-being in Nigeria. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), harmful alcohol use contributes to more than three million deaths globally every year and is linked to over 200 diseases and health conditions.
Online, reactions have ranged from concern and sympathy to calls for greater support for ageing entertainers and increased attention to mental health and substance abuse issues.
As the video continued to circulate online, many netizens were hoping the beloved actor would receive whatever support and care he may need on time, while others were urging the public to respond with compassion rather than ridicule.
